How to get these kind of photos in Dubrovnik during Summer…?
Have you ever visited Dubrovnik? If you have during the tourist season, then you can probably guess the answer to that question. There is only one way. Wake up before the sunrise! 🙂
Every summer I’m on the vacation in Dubrovnik, my hometown, at least one morning I get up really early so I can take photos while most people are still asleep. However, I don’t do it only because of the photos. Also, because I love to experience those moments when the streets are still empty and quiet. It feels very peaceful and good for my soul. Sometimes I even put my camera away and just enjoy being there.
What inspires me…
While wandering I look for little architectural details I may have missed before. Wander the narrow streets with stone houses that have been there for centuries. Another thing that attracts my attention are balconies and opened windows where clothes are drying and there is occasional plant that survived the summer heat. When I want to rest and relax, I stop by the sea to watch the colours on the horizon change and listen to seagulls and their morning song. Sometimes I can feel a gentle breeze on my face and sometimes it’s like the world stands completely still. So I walk and take photos and I try not to think about anything but just feel and be present. Saying hello to occasional sleepy cat who looks at me with one eye opened thinking ‘what is this human doing at this time of the morning disturbing me in my sleep?’.
This time I had the best company…
This year the experience has been even more special because I brought my 13 year old niece with me. She’s the kind of girl who is always ready for an adventure, for experiencing something new. Waking up before the sunrise while on summer holidays ‘just’ to go for a walk definitely falls into ‘adventure category’ if you are a teenager. 😀 But in the end she thought it was worth it and we both want to do it again…
One of the things I love to capture with my camera are old doors. I just love them, they tell stories of past times. Here are some of my favourite from Dubrovnik Old Town…
Rector’s Palace
Rector’s Palace
Church of St Blaise
The Franciscan Church
Sponza Palace
Here’s one the sleepy cats who wasn’t so happy about the fact we woke her up! 😀
Hope you enjoyed this early morning walk through the streets of Dubrovnik Old Town and thank you for visiting my blog! 🙂
Sharing the link to one the posts I made few years ago that could be interesting to you. It’s from my photo walk in Dubrovnik in winter when you don’t have to wake up so early for that because it’s off tourist season. I love to compare photos taken in same locations in different season, light and mood are so different… Here’s the link: https://www.travellingoven.com/2019/04/dubrovnik-croatia-without-tourist-crowds/
