Those of you who follow me here on my Travelling oven know already that besides food and food photography I am equally passionate about travelling. I just love the excitement of discovering something new and honestly it doesn’t have to be something big, it can be as small as the tiny little village, a corner of nature whether it’s a forrest, lake, seaside, mountain, where I haven’t been before, a charming little town where every cobbled street and every old house tells a story… It can be big too of course, like a big exciting city that I visit for the first time or a new country. It doesn’t matter big or small, it’s the excitement of discovering, seeing, feeling, it’s the sense of freedom that travelling gives me that I love so much.
I love travelling in a good company but also I don’t mind travelling alone. I know some people would never even consider that as perhaps they think they would feel lonely or scared or something but I like it and find it empowering somehow, you have the power to decide where you want to go and what you want to do in the pace that you want. If you want to sit somewhere with your cup of tea or coffee and a slice of cake, you can do it for as long as you want, slowly taking in the atmosphere, observing the life around you, breathing and feeling free and like everything will be just as it should be. Told you, I find great things happen to my mind and soul when I travel! 😀
Travelling is not only about sightseeing and seeing as much as possible in the time you have but it’s also about slowing down and just being somewhere and feeling peace inside, no matter whether it’s a new place or a place where you keep coming back…
Talking about places where we keep coming back, for me one of those places is Celje, a town in Slovenia where my mum comes from. I am half Croatian and half Slovenian so I’ve been going there from when I was born. When I was a child, me and my sister would spend part of our summer holidays there with our grandmother, aunt and uncle, our little friends, playing in the garden, picking up sweet raspberries and juicy ripe tomatoes, eating ice creams, creating adventures that in the child’s mind seemed so big and exciting, going on countless trips…
Slovenia is a small country but unbelievably beautiful one, within a couple of hours you can go from the most stunning mountains through the golden fields and to the seaside charming little towns. I’m sure there will be another post one day about the nature’s beauty of Slovenia but this one is a little postcard from two towns, Celje, in these sunny photos and Maribor where we went on a day trip on a rainy summer day…
I was visiting my aunt and uncle in Celje this June and that Sunday we decided to go for a trip to the mountains where the air is fresh, grass is green and rivers blue and cold. But we woke up to the surprisingly bad weather with showers coming down from the dark grey sky and winds howling through the windows. Trip to the mountains had to be cancelled but that didn’t stop us to go somewhere else so we took our umbrellas, dressed our jackets and we went for a day trip to Maribor. You will see on the photos how we were the only people facing that weather! 😀
